The Faculty

Professor Botero’s work focuses on the exploration of possibilities and contradictions derived from participatory design, with a special consideration towards supporting livable futures that might exist as outcomes of socio-technical changes. Overall, her research and practice aim to understand, resist, intervene and demonstrate alternatives that can foster more relational and caring interactions among, and between people, collectives and their environment.

Professor Mulder’s work focuses on exploring systemic design and participatory techniques to be applied in the public realm with the aim of scaling and infrastructuring social change. Professor Mulder’s expertise will be integrated in the workshop by Professor Pierce’s expertise in pedagogical practices aimed at cultivating resilience and cognitive flexibility, thus educating professionals able to address systemic and complex problems of our time in such a way that cares for people and communities.

Professor Anna Meroni’s research focus is service and strategic design for sustainability to foster social innovation, participation and local development. Co-founder of the Polimi DESIS Lab and of the international DESIS Network (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability), she has developed a specific expertise in co-design strategies, methods and tools and originated the concept of community-centred design and  works transversally on new entrepreneurship, place making, public services, urban commons and responsible research and innovation.Since 2022, she is Deputy Dean of the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano.

She is principal investigator of national and international research projects, chair of conferences, author of several publications, member of different scientific boards and visiting lecturer in international universities

    Requirements

    In addition to applicant quality, the Organizing Committee will consider a number of features including: the coherence of the motivation with the aim and scope of the school, the potential benefit for the student’s research, the timeliness for the development of the student’s career. Preference will be given to applicants not participating onsite in the previous edition (2022) of the school.

    The school is especially addressed to doctoral students and young postdoctoral scholars. A very limited number of senior students (e.g., assistant/associate/full professors) can be admitted, if they provide strong and convincing motivation in their application letter.
